Podcast Summarydodj "dah-jay" - (noun) a dj who is able to create and control grooves and/or moods between songs via mixing; (verb) to dance and/or dj About dj pistol peteI got into djin, in 1979, cuz i was too shy to dance back in the day (you might still see me stand by a booth swayin to the beat when not spinnin), i still wanted to be part of the party. Hmmm, how could i get invovled, ahh ha, Make them dance by being the dj. So i had to learn to mix. Thanks the record by Grandmaster Flash , i spent countless hours figuring out that dang record. Then i learned how count beats. I heard a tape from WBLS and was wow! I had to learn how to edit. Pause Mixin. I got another turntable, mind you that 1200s weren’t readily avaialable. Paper Pitch was invented, lol. Along with a Radio Shack mixer and "paper pitch, went to college scene and ended up majoring in "mixology" at Edinboro, lol. Anyone remember Kool Phi Kool? Pioneer Hip Hop dj, Street dj champ from Erie, Pa. (remember the 5 ttmix with "Egyptian Lover"?) Became a house head in 1985, when i went to Odell's in Baltimore, not to far from where i live now. WoW!!!! the rest is history......
